This woodcut print is based on an original illustration from the so-called Swabian Chronicle, originally printed in 1486 by Konrad Dinckmut in Ulm, Germany.
This illustration was cut on a block of linden wood, and handprinted on handmade rag-laid paper, also made in the Prelo workshop.
While cutting this block, I kept thinking that many areas were probably not deep enough, but I was wrong. The first try was the final result. Don’t get me wrong, there are a couple of fails on the image, but they are part of the process (and charm!) which are also found in originals.
